Those of you who attended AIM could give an impromptu speech about these pictures! The wheel keeps on turning, bringing new initiates into the shared world of “The Cornstarch Method”, our favorite metaphor for what it feels like to sink into human tissues, and a constant reminder to follow the lead of the body at hand. Newbies, you’ve just joined the ranks of the elite palpation sector. To our grads – keep on cornstarching. The world needs you.

We wish to thank everyone who attended this year’s Student Clinic. Fill out our contact request to be put on the mailing list to be notified early. As you know, Student Clinic fills up quickly!
AIM Students began the event season off with a great start last week with SOU’s “Relaxation Extravaganza!” Held in the Fall and Spring terms before finals week, this event gives the SOU students a chance to unwind some of the stress of exams. The AIM students were ready and gave an amazing 83 massages in three hours! This term we also decided to offer table massages instead of chair work, allowing for fuller treatments. While many of the SOU students had never received prior event massage, the switch didn’t seem to dissuade anyone, even with an average wait of half an hour or more. While it was definitely hard work for the AIM students doing three solid hours of massage back to back, working on tables helped them remember correct body mechanics, which can be problematic with massage chairs. All in all, everyone had a great time and are looking forward to future events coming up! Thanks to all the AIM participants and SOU students for all the wonderful energy. The AIM Team is ready for another great year of giving back to the community – stay tuned for many exciting events coming up!

Here at the Ashland Institute of Massage most of us wear a number of different hats. We are a small school, so multiple job descriptions is the norm. I wear four primary hats: massage therapist, science instructor, bodywork instructor, and co-director. The last is the most recent hat to top the pile and has been the most challenging one for me to wear for one small reason: the office itself!
Have you have ever considered a career in massage therapy?...
