Welcome to the
Ashland Institute of Massage,
Continuing Education.
We offer an evolving variety of
high-quality continuing education classes and workshops for
licensed massage therapists, other health care workers, and occasionally the general public.
Held year-round, these classes range in topic from therapeutic treatment skills to new bodywork modalities, from ethics to insurance billing.
Registration
You may register online by clicking on the class of your choice below or calling 541.482.5134.
When you register online, you can expect to receive a confirmation email as well as a receipt once processed by the office. You will also hear from AIM staff with details on what to expect regarding your specific course about a week out from the scheduled date! If you have questions in the meantime, feel free to call the office number listed above.
Early Enrollment Discount
We offer an early enrollment discount for registrations paid in full by the noted early enrollment date for each course. See course descriptions for details.
Cancellations
All classes are subject to rescheduling, or cancellation due to COVID or insufficient enrollment of the course overall. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this. Personal cancellations from the course may be made via letter, email or phone. Cancellations with fewer than three (3) days’ notice will be charged half the seminar tuition. Other cancellations will be charged a
$25 cancellation fee.
** There is a special COVID-19 cancelation policy in place in order to protect students and staff so that we may continue to safely meet in person. If you are sick please do not attend in-person classes. You will be given a refund in full if unable to attend last minute due to an illness.

Introduction to Active Cupping Techniques

A new twist on an ancient modality, cupping is no longer only for Chinese medical practitioners. In the hands of a massage therapist, cupping can melt away superficial fascial tension, release trigger points without stress on practitioner thumbs and joints, and move lymph effortlessly. This class offers an introduction to active cupping techniques that will allow you to achieve great results with minimal time and effort. This class can also be used as a pre-requisite for the following day’s course: Cupping Techniques for Nerve Entrapments, details in that caption. Cups will be provided, and available for purchase in class. If you have a set already, please bring them. Jessica Masters, LMT, is a graduate of Ashland Institute of Massage (2010). Jessica also holds a certification in Medical Massage, where she was first introduced to cups in 2014. She is the owner of Masters Medical Massage in Ashland, OR. Jessica has a passion for teaching and sharing her excitement about this incredibly effective modality.

This course is not considered an introduction course, prior knowledge on the basics of cupping is required. If you have a well established understanding of basic cupping techniques and are looking to add more advanced techniques to your toolbelt, then this course is for you! Looking to learn the basics and hop into this course as well? Consider taking Jessica’s Intro course the day prior and knocking out two courses is one weekend. There will be a short review of basic cupping mechanisms of action. The main focus of this course will be focused on learning Cupping techniques specific to releasing Nerve Entrapments. Class will be primarily hands-on, working through the numerous nerve pathways in the body. Cups will be provided, and available for purchase in class. If you have a set already, please bring them. We all want to be heard and understood! Our clients certainly do, and keeping communication clear and effective can be a challenge of its own. Join Joanne to learn some simple techniques that will help you discover the healing power of empathic listening—for both your professional and personal lives. We will also address your real-life experiences, and you’ll take home fresh ideas and techniques for expressing yourself cleanly and clearly. This course meets the 4 hour Ethics/Communication requirement for Oregon LMT license renewal. Joanne Lescher, CT, is a certified trainer in nonviolent communication. As an experienced mediator and group facilitator, she equips people to dialogue with each other more effectively. Renowned for her warmth, empathy, and humor, Joanne teaches practical skills that clients can immediately exercise in their practices and lives. Her reputation has been affectionately summarized as an “ability to tame lions”.

February 7, 2025 - Releases for the Shoulder- Anterior & Clavicle (Phase 4) This 4 hour class will include hands-on techniques for the general Shoulder, two specific Shoulder Points, and the Clavicle. March 7, 2025 - Releases for the Shoulder- Posterior & Scapula (Phase 4) This 4 hour class will include hands-on techniques for six specific Shoulder Points and the Scapula. April 4, 2025 - Releases for the Elbow & Wrist (Phase 4) This 4 hour class will include hands-on techniques for the Elbow Points, general Elbow, general Wrist, and general Hand. May 2, 2025 - Releases for the Hand (Phase 4) This 4 hour class will include hands-on techniques for the Carpals, Metacarpals, and Phalanges. Ortho-Bionomy® uses osteopathic-based, gentle, comfortable body positions and movements to stimulate self-correcting reflexes within the muscles and nerves. This method is specific and structure oriented. The techniques of this foundation class can alleviate tension patterns within 10-30 seconds. It is easy on the practitioner and can be integrated into any massage or bodywork session. This class fulfills a requirement for the Society of Ortho-Bionomy International’s Associate and Practitioner training programs. The Hand, Elbow & Wrist, and two Shoulder classes in combination are the equivalent of the 16 hour Releases for the Upper Extremities (Phase 4) class. You can take any of the Ortho-Bionomy First Friday classes in a series, mix and match them in any order, or take any individual course as a stand-alone class. Included in the class tuition is access to a prerequisite online video with necessary information about Ortho-Bionomy, so that we can spend more class time doing hands-on work. If you have recently taken an Ortho-Bionomy class this requirement may be waived, please ask for more details. Please note: Because of her specific health history, the Instructor strongly requests (but does not require) participants to wear an N95 mask while in the classroom for this particular course. Masks will be available if needed. Melissa Malm, LMT, Registered Ortho-Bionomy® Instructor, has been a student and practitioner of massage and bodywork since 1997. She studied in the Bay Area both at the National Holistic Institute in Emeryville and the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley. In 2007, Melissa discovered Ortho-Bionomy and realized she had found her bodywork “home.” She is an Advanced Practitioner and in 2020 became a Registered Instructor of Ortho-Bionomy®. A course for bodyworkers of all different trades - LMT’s, PT’s, DC’s Rolfers, NMT’s or anyone with a professional license to touch! Learn highly effective Advanced Myofascial Techniques that dramatically improve your ability to work with conditions such as ankle injuries, strains, sprains, pronation/supination patterns, movement restrictions, foot / lower leg pain, and more. The Advanced Myofascial Techniques series presents practicing somatic therapists and qualified students with advanced and little-known myofascial techniques which can be easily incorporated into existing personal styles. Drawing on a wide range of disciplines, the focus is on unusual, interesting, and fresh approaches that will both expand technique repertoire and inspire creativity and innovation. Potential topics include: -Specific techniques for common structural and functional complaints -Relieving pain, restoring lost function, and getting lasting results -Utilizing both active and passive movement to enhance effectiveness -Precision in working with specific tissue types and body layers -Combining indirect or subtle work with deep or direct work -Tracking subtle psychophysiological and nervous system responses -Ways to work sensitively, safely, and comfortably at very deep levels Bruce Nelson is a Certified Advanced Rolfer™, a Berry Method® Practitioner, a Reiki Master, is Level II Certified in Advanced Myofascial Techniques, and is an Instructor for advanced-trainings.com's Advanced Myofascial Techniques series. June 6, 2025 - Interosseous Membrane Releases for the Forearm & Lower Leg (Phase 4) This 4 hour class will include hands-on techniques for the Radius & Ulna of the Forearm and the Tibia & Fibula of the Lower Leg, to help release each area’s Interosseous Membrane. Ortho-Bionomy® uses osteopathic-based, gentle, comfortable body positions and movements to stimulate self-correcting reflexes within the muscles and nerves. This method is specific and structure oriented. The techniques of this foundation class can alleviate tension patterns within 10-30 seconds. It is easy on the practitioner and can be integrated into any massage or bodywork session.
